Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Florence is the cultural destination par excellence. • Book your ticket for the Uffizi Gallery, one of the most beautiful museums in Europe. Its galleries feature works by the greatest Italian artists of the Renaissance: Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Perugino, Raphael and Giotto. The highlight of the visit? The two wonders of Botticelli, the local artist: the Birth of Venus and Primavera.
• Continue your tour of museums with the galleria dell' Accademia, dedicated to sculpture and home to Michelangelo's famous David, and the Museo di San Marco, a former convent now dedicated to the paintings of Fra Angelico.
• Be ready to be amazed when you arrive in Piazza della Signoria, the city's most famous square, with its many sculptures, including the famous equestrian statue of Cosimo I, its fountain of Neptune and its ancient palaces, including Palazzo Vecchio, where the city's notables once sat.
• Take to the hills! At the end of the day, take a taxi or bus across the Arno to piazzale Michelangelo. Not only is this look-out point pretty, but it also offers breathtaking views over Florence that is at its more beautiful at sunset.
• On the Ponte Vecchio, admire the designs of the goldsmiths, who have been working with gold and silver for five centuries in their small workshops perched on the city's oldest bridge. However, avoid sealing your love with a padlock hanging from the bridge’s gates: it's been banned for nearly twenty years!
• Push open the door of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the duomo. It is stunning! It is one of the largest churches in Christendom. Brunelleschi designed the famous dome which, at over 45 metres in diameter, in unequalled anywhere in the world. Giotto was responsible for the campanile.
• Continue your tour of Florentine sacred sites with the Brancacci Chapel and its frescoes by Lippi, the Basilica of San Lorenzo and its Medici chapels, tombs of the famous Florentine family, or the Basilica of Santa Croce, which houses the tombs of several Florentine personalities including Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli and Dante.
• Immerse yourself in greenery with a visit to the city's two most beautiful gardens: the giardino Bardini and the giardino di Boboli. Stroll along the paths shaded by wisteria, perfumed by rose beds, refreshed by fountains and canals and brightened up by numerous sculptures.
• Discover the history of two major Italian fashion labels: Gucci and Ferragamo. They were both born on the banks of the Arno, and both tell their own stories in their respective museums: the Gucci Garden and the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum.
• Taste the ‘super Tuscans,’ the best crus of the Tuscan vineyards, including prestigious wines such as: Chianti Superiore, Brunello di Montalcino and Bolgheri.
