Fly from Nice to Lanzarote

We increasingly hear the trope: "There are no more seasons". That is, except on the Canaries, where they have never (or almost never) existed! But Lanzarote doesn't just rely on its azure waters to attract visitors. In addition to its ever-present sunshine, it has two major attractions. Nature for starters! Here, you can bask on vast beaches of black or white sand, bordered by a crystal-clear sea, or around a natural pool created by a lava flow. Great for swimming with the family. The beauty of the back country is just as striking, with underground caves created by volcanic eruptions and arid scarlet volcanoes evoking Martian landscapes.

• Visit the island's towns and villages. Start in lively, vibrant Arrecife, before heading off to Teguise, the island's former capital, Haría and its white palm-fringed streets, or the fishing village of Orzola, the gateway to the aptly named island of La Graciosa. Tiny but charming!
• Laze on Playa Papagayo, Lanzarote's most famous beach, with its towering cliffs, stunning seascapes and majestic sunsets. If you're in the mood for more action, go surfing or kitesurfing on Farmara beach. Great waves and no reefs: wonderful!
• Take a boat trip along Lanzarote’s coast to discover its rich wildlife, from the marine creatures that inhabit it to coastal landscapes, alternating between deserted stretches of sand and lava cliffs.
• Hike in the Timanfaya National Park to discover its volcanoes and lunar... or Martian landscapes! There is also a fourteen-kilometre bus tour. It may be less demanding, but it’s just as exciting.
• Descend into the bowels of the Earth with a visit to the gigantic caves of Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes. These lava tunnels, several kilometres long, will amaze you with their shapes, colours and inhabitants: including albino blind crabs, a unique species endemic to the island!
• Explore the Janubio saltflats, the largest in the Canary Islands. Still in operation today, these salt marshes, set in an immense lagoon created three centuries ago by a volcanic eruption, produce high-quality salt.
• Have lunch in one of Lanzarote's guachinches. Typical of the archipelago, these popular little 'canteens', with just a few tables, offer traditional, cheap and tasty food.
• Try the local delicacies of palm honey, a totally natural sweet syrup made from the sap of the Canary Island palm tree, and Canary Island bananas, renowned for their intense flavour. Europe's only PGI banana!
• Enjoy white wines - the famous volcano wines - from the volcanic Malvasia, an endemic grape variety with incomparable aromas.
