What to do in
Cluj ?
Sisi and Francis Joseph, her emperor husband, reigned over this part of the world. Cluj has only been Romanian for a century, and the influence of the Habsburg Empire can still be felt. It is visible in the beautiful heritage, including a statue of the King of… Hungary, and a Catholic cathedral: a surprising feature in a largely Orthodox country. But while the verb “charm” is conjugated in every past tense, the verb “live” is resolutely used in the present tense, and perhaps even in the future tense, given the overwhelming percentage of young people. Filled with bars, cafés, restaurants and clubs, the squares and streets of the city centre are buzzing all year round, with the sounds of what seems like an endless celebration.

Romantic by day, buzzing by night
See more See lessBring together students from all over Europe (including over a thousand young French people) and you’re sure to get a fantastic atmosphere! Spend some time on Strada Piezișă, known to the locals as “the street of thirst”. Its many bars and pubs are an expression of the vibrant nature of the city. This makes it the perfect place for a holiday with friends. Even when the universities close their doors over summer, this joyful atmosphere continues. The party goes on with plenty of festivals, which bring together thousands of people in the heart of the city, to enjoy a film or a concert.
Of course, you don’t have to stay up all night. Unlike Dracula, Bram Stoker’s famous vampire, inspired by a local lord, Cluj Napoca isn’t shy of sunlight. Quite the opposite: it is dazzling in the daytime, with a mixture of nature and culture that makes it an enjoyable place for couples to explore.
